Fashion and its consequence

Faded jeans,boot-cut trousers, over sized t-shirts, streaks of colour in your hair,an animal wrapped around your neck!

At an awards ceremony somewhere in Hollywood.. " And here comes Latino sensation Jennifer Lopez.. Who are you wearing tonight? Ahh hmmm .. I'm' wearing this fabulous creation by %&%$%&$ along with these diamond studded shoes that I'll never wear again .. You know, it's a Hollywood thing.. We never repeat! "

Sitting across the hall, seated comfortably on the couch, flipping channels (until i came across J Lo in all her glory ) all i saw was a loose piece of green cloth, barely draped around her . I don't even know why she bothered wearing even that much. One could be excused for thinking she was a survivor of a tsunami and came rushing in directly just in time for the awards ceremony! A wave from one's hand would carry enough force of air to disrobe her completely. And she actually pays big bucks to wear something like that. Not to mention some of the other celebs on TV who are ever so cautious to wear so little in their music videos and promotional campaigns and have not more that a handkerchief worth of cloth around them .

Of course, regular folks like us are not daring enough to pull off something like that. Never the less, they're just as outrageous .

I still remember when malls and other shopping marts would sell "worn out jeans" with holes and patches all over. I'm guessing its "out" now, but i can't believe that it had several takers! Why on earth would anyone ever want to wear worn out faded clothes! I even remember ads in papers where the shops would sell some acid crystals along with your trouser with which you could wreck your jeans and make a fashion statement !

I'm guessing that there would be a day when you get jeans that smell weird too. " Hey check out(read :smell) my new denim.. it's got the rotting carrion thing going on ! Ain't it cool? "
I just don't understand the whole concept of fashion . Why do men and women spend so much on clothes and accessories that make no sense at all? Why do they want to stand out in a crowd even if it costs them their humility?
What ever happened to the time when clothes were about comfort and protection more than making non-verbal statements and spot light snatching?
Some might say that its creativity in flow .. but i honestly do think that we are tipping off the scales and going overboard with these things..
